  • Student Presentations Our young leaders give weekly presentations on "Presentation Friday"!  They are preparing now for successful futures.
  • Guest Speakers Our leaders learn from real business and community leaders on a bimonthly basis.  Click on "Guest Speakers for previous and future guest speakers".
  • Community Involvement Our leaders learn about community concerns and have visited Operation Push, a City Council meeting, and the Black Wall street economic summit.
  • Hands on Learning Our leaders do a variety of projects which require them to use their knowledge on various topics.

Two or three Fridays of each month is a “field day”. Students have the opportunity to apply weekly lessons to the real world by traveling to various locations and learning in various settings. Each trip focuses on a particular topic being taught or is a cultural activity. For last school years trips, click on the following link:

Universoul Circus

 Leaders will enjoy the sights and sounds of many talented performers from around the world.

Seaway Bank

Leaders will open bank accounts at Seaway Bank, the only African American owned bank in Chicago.

 

October

Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba 
Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11am
Featuring Elements of flamenco, ballet and contemporary dance with Spanish and Afro-Cuban rhythms, Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba is an ensemble of 18 talented female dancers.  They are joined onstage by a live musical group for a high-energy performance that will engage and excite your students.  Company founder and director Lizt Alfonso will guide the students through selections from Fuerza y Compas

 

History project with the Senior Center

Senators and Presidents will interview seniors about US history.  This information will be put together in a video about history.

Federal Reserve Bank

Leaders will learn about our nation's banking system.

 

City Council Meeting

Leaders will learn about local politics as well as see many council men and women in action.

 

December

Nutcracker

The Joffrey Ballet is proud to present this spectacular cultural field trip opportunity for Chicago students once again.  School groups can experience the holiday magic and get an exclusive look behind the scenes at the professional dancers and other important people who bring this classic production to life each year.

Kwanzaa presentation at the Senior Center

Leaders will sing, act and teach the seniors about Kwanzaa.
