Every school day begins with honoring and thanking God for our many blessings. A different student presents on the weekly theme every morning. This"sermon" may include bible verses, stories, and analogies related to the theme. Then our morning devotion ends with all students reciting our leadership creed. We also nurture our students' spiritual knowledge throughout the day in all subject areas by: Discussing how God applies to what is being learned in the subject areas. Reading and comprehending bible passages. Participating in discussions on behavior and living up to God's standards. Community service projects: Students will assist in organizing each service project as well as designing a public service announcement for a billboard. Sensitivity trainings: students will spend a day “walking in another's shoes” including pretending to be blind or in a wheelchair. Discussing daily affirmations. Meeting pastors and discussing spiritual topics. Encouraging students to write in their Blessings Journal.
Leadership Skills Development All students are treated and taught as the future leaders that they will be. They are expected to behave and work as leaders. Many of the skills that are fostered are: Debate: Students learn how to debate and use their skills in class and during the social studies "Pure Potential" talkshow. Speaking Professionally: This entails using correct grammar at all times, giving eye contact when conversing with another person, and using vocabulary words in everyday conversations. Proper Posture: Students must maintain proper posture at all times including sitting, standing and walking. Leading meetings: Students take turns leading various committees such as the business committee and the service committee. This will entail planning the meeting's agenda and leading the meeting. Time management skills: Students learn how to prioritize their work and schedule. Organizational skills: Cleanliness, personal appearance, organizing notebooks, are among the many organizational skills that are taught and enforced. Using teamwork: Students learn how to work with a group to accomplish goals so they will understand the importance of maintaining a strong team for success. Proper behavior is taught and enforced everyday. Parents also serve as active participants in maintaining proper behavior. All students learn: How to actively listen to and follow directions. Respect for adults including knowing boundaries. To give eye contact when speaking to others. How to speak correctly in a variety of situations. Table etiquette, which is used at all times. How to be lady like or a gentleman. How to discuss issues with others. How to understand personal feelings and how to react upon them. How to understand others' behaviors and how to not let others affect themselves.
